Well, it ain't MacOS.
After, what, 5 years of PC use, I'm still a Mac guy to some extent. Like when OS9 went to OS9.2something. No big deal. Install - shit works - I'm happy. Even going up to OS10 - while a huge pain in my software ass - the audio, like, worked the same and stuff. Apple seemed to encourage progress, whereas Microsoft seems to encourage drinking and substance abuse.
I recently upgraded to Vista on my main music machine. Everything worked great. I've recorded most of this Sensuous Enemy album in Vista. But now that I'm mixing, I'm getting about 2/3 of the power I got out of the same machine with XP installed. Well, that's weird. And pretty stupid. No need for suggestions, I've read like 20,000 web pages on optimizing ASIO in Vista. At this point I have Vista so stripped down that it's like a half-assed version of XP. Anyway, I'm gonna just bite it, put a nice clean XP install back on my machine and let the future wait for a while.
That's Where The Fuck? not What the Fuck?, just for clarification.
I've sat and waited patiently, knowing that I'm in a serious minority by not having cable television. I have an actual television. It's rather nice - a 32 in. Sony Bravia. But nothing comes through on it except Pixar DVD's. That's how I roll these days.
Anyway, I've waited patiently as NBC has stuck their thumbs further and futher up their asses. First, with iTunes. What's so fucking hard about putting your shows on iTunes? Do you old white people think iTunes video is some kind of trend that won't last? The same way you felt about hip hop here 30 years later? Netflix? I'm a member. You have 1 fucking show on Netflix (not counting old shit that's already available on DVD). Amazon Unbox? What the fuck is Amazon Unbox? Is that even a word?
My wife is a huge fan of ER and we're like 4 years behind on watching that show. Apparently, by the 2028 Olympics, I'll get to see todays Tean USA vs Greece Basketball Highlights. Sheesh.
I'm through with the really difficult part here, growing a beard in 90 degree weather. From here on out, it's all fun and games. And more beard.
I just got my prescription lenses this afternoon! Word up, I can see all kinds of things. So apparently, I still have 20/20 vision - but I have some serious eye strain going on. It's 100% computer related. Doc even said if I didn't use a computer, this wouldn't be an issue. Huh. And luckily the frames match my beard. I picked them out PBE (pre-beard era) so I was a bit worried about that. They look geeky and great.
I'm sitting here doing the mastering for a new Posi Digital release - it's really excellent stuff. I'll let Dean tell you about it when he gets time. Like that didn't give it away. But this new API box I got has propelled me into the world of "real" mastering or at least much more real than before. I'm not rolling with a 10k Manley EQ or anything like that, but the sound improvement is still rather startling.
Anyone going down to the art openings in Pilsen tonight should keep an ear open for a loft performance featuring our drummer, Corey McCaferty. He's sitting in with an electronic outfit called Sweatpants Money, quite possibly the coolest band name ever. I would post all the pertinent info - but I'm not even sure if it's a public party. Just follow the sounds of improv-a-tronica.
