I’m busting my ass this weekend trying to get the CD’s all done and ordered. We’re getting a 4 page eco-wallet. I’ve always been a bit hesitant to use alternative packaging – I guess I’ve worried it would affect sales in one way or another. However, at this point, everything in my life (and I know I can speak for Lauren on this as well) is very conscious of the environment or “the situation” as we’ll call it. It’s cool that people still want CD’s – I get that. But I’m not going to wrap it up in plastic, in a plastic case, with more plastic junk hanging off of it. You’ll just have to take good care of your Grayscale CD, cool? Vinyl, now that’s another story. (hint, hint)
Alin's detailed production on Grayscale constructs a heavily orchestrated, lavish sound that further incorporates organic instrumentation and exemplifies the emotional impact of Cheatham's vocal delivery. The comparisons that both flattered and diminished the uniqueness their debut Metropolitan are no longer relevant, as Grayscale defines a sound exclusive to The Atomica Project.
Grayscale features contributions from longtime collaborator Percy Trayanov (Cylab), additional Rhodes piano by Christopher Randall (Chris Randall, Micronaut), additional drums by Rey Guajardo, and turntable work by Dean Dunakin (Bounte).
It's finally available as a digital download.
I sincerely hope you enjoy the album.
I've also, officially, finished Grayscale. It will be up @ shopposi before too long. I'll be more specific about that in a future post. I still need to work on a few details before the album goes up.
Dean and I are heading over to Corey's tomorrow for the first new lineup Atomica rehearsal. I'm rather unprepared as I've been bombarded with work this week, but I'm looking forward to it. The release party for Grayscale is on May 23 @ The Darkroom. We will have some new shirts and limited edition CD's for both Grayscale and the Gravity single.
What else. Lauren and I have decided to go genre hopping this summer and do 4 3-4 track EP's that will ultimately turn into 1 kind of messed up album. The genre's are
1. sharon jones/amy whatshername type stuff, basically horns and shit.
2. straight up hip hop - we'll be working with some guest MC's, and Lauren will have her first experience as a backup singer ; )
3. tom waits-ish dirty fucked up american blues
4. electro - a little bit of telefon tel aviv style electronic
It should be cool. It'll all be a little more experimental than the last 2 albums, and a little more fun to make.
