He did a tremendous job, what started as a super simple Paypal store now has its very own content management system. It's nothing crazy - just CA and The Atomica Project goods. Hopefully the first of many interesting little boutique shops that line my block of the net. It's a cute idea.
If your one of those people who likes to show support for independent artists, you could always go pick up that Atomica shirt you've always wanted. Keeping in mind that once these are gone - everything will say "The Atomica Project." That's right, it's a collectors item already. Get one for your girl too.
I should mention, our business model - who we aspire to be - is Positron! So you can expect the same free and prompt shipping. I never leave the house - doesn't fare well for our customers - but my wife, Catherine, works right next door to the downtown USPS. So there you go.
Last year was great. Aside from mixing SMP, iScintilla, Cylab, Bounte, etc. - I had a great year financially by doing so. I achieved that "freedom" necessary to do this kind of work. It's very hard to work for a reasonable rate when you can't pay your bills. That, I've done for years.
My commercial work went really, really well last year as well. The Chemlab tour was good. I was working for 2 of the bands, that made a big difference. Chris and I got quite a bit of MTV play from Scanalyzer.
Ah, the memories. Now that my slump is over (I'm doing a job for American Express) I can talk about it. I haven't had any commercial work since November. I've had 3 bands either delay or drop off as far as production work. Haven't made crap from ASCAP. So, I'm kind of getting this hamster complex. No matter how much I seem to bust my ass, I return to a similar place. Might be time for some self examining career moves. No, I'm not getting a job as an accountant, at least not yet. To be continued . .
Our set was what it was. I wish it felt normal for me to just get up there with a laptop and play – but I’m old. I need a band. Especially a live drummer. Lauren did a great job as always. I screwed up more than usual, and gave it away more than ever. I had a cute French girl ask me “How does a man learn to express such emotion” – referring to the Atomica lyrics. That kind of made my night.
Two loons were alright. They’re excellent musicians. We’re still trying to figure out if their vocalist was a. suffering from a head cold worse than mine or b. a prima donna. She didn’t speak to anyone, skipped sound check, etc. Kind of weird. I hope she was just feeling under the weather. In other news, I don’t miss Seattle.
Now I’m onto greater things. Before the show storm ripped through my studio, I was mastering Grayscale. I was nearly done, and in the process of polling my band mates over 2 final songs. We’re keeping both of them so I have to do a couple quick tweaks and that will be that. Can’t believe I’m saying that, actually indicating the end of this album is in sight.
We have, mark your calendars, a release party booked at the Darkroom for Friday, May 23. It’ll be a full band scenario + violin and viola. The openers are Comasoft and Corporate X. Plenty of time to clear your schedule. Hell, even book a flight. This is certainly going to be the champion of Atomica shows thus far.
