A couple days after signing our lease we got a phone call. It was from our landlord, letting us know that we’d left the garage door unlocked. Turns out she was monitoring this stuff quite fanatically. Catherine had taken Ella out of the car, brought her into the apartment, and then gone back out to get her stuff. It was during these few moments that said door had been left unlocked. Mind you, this isn’t a door that anyone has access to – it’s our access door between the yard and the backdoor to the building. Another locked gate prevents anyone from just walking into the yard. This was only the beginning. Thi woman “rents” out her extra parking space. It turns out she “rents” it to her probably married boyfriend. No biggie. We still wonder why she had to lie about that but whatever. Needless to say, we realized she was a little sensitive to this, and we diligently locked every door we went through (there are 3 locking doors between the garage and our apartment) .
Over the next few months, we were accused over and over again of leaving this inside door unlocked. We only use our car like once a week for groceries so it was pretty clear it wasn’t us. I finally just flat lined her – “It’s your boyfriend.” Her response was classic. “That’s not possible.” Well, actually, crazy bitch lady, it’s more than possible. It’s factual. She never said another word after I accused her boyfriend of leaving the door unlocked. .
We also had some serious problems with her constant crazy stomping. She’s a small woman. Or the Illinois classic as I like to call it – 5”3”, big ass, blonde hair, you know the profile. But she put some weight into her walk. Woke Ella up numerous times. I’m not talking a slight pitter patter. It sounded like an elk was running wild upstairs. We never complained about it, but it drove us nuts. There are like 100 other not worth mentioning details to this story but .
Now she’s trying to screw us out of her deposit. Her Dad and boyfriend fix everything, poorly, around the place. She’s trying to take our deposit for a few drywall anchor holes we made. I patched them before we left . . it’s not like we didn’t know this was coming. I’ll give everyone the address and the landlord’s name once this is all settled, just so you don’t accidentally rent from her. In the meantime, I need to thank her for being such an incredibly horrible human being that it drove us to borrow money for our debts, and just buy what we can now. It was a big step for us and I’m sure we’ll be happy at our new place.
