we just bought a condo. not unlike my marriage, it all happened very quickly and we're both extremely confident that we've made the right decision. how about that, i'm so happy i could burst.
The only redeeming factor - well, we needed access to wi-fi and a fax machine for our adventures in real estate back in Chicago - is that we've splurged for a really nice Holiday Inn in Mt. Vernon. This place is like Holiday Inn Express without the Express. There's a full on business center in the lobby, it's really the pinnacle of Southern Illinois luxury if there is such a thing.
Anyway, we'll be back Monday - ya'll have yerselves a nice weekend.

A film I did some music for has won an award for Best Short @ the Coney Island Film Festival. It's called Nature of the Beast and stars Andy Samberg of Saturday Night Live fame. Pretty cool, and for those of you who only know my down-tempo side - I'll have you know the cues I did for the movie are full on Slayer type thrash metal. How's that for ironic.
We’re trapped in a endless circle of joy and stress at the moment, going through the tedious process of buying a condo here in the city. We, of course, have ideals about what kind of place we want but the reality that I’m an artist/care provider and Catherine is a public interest attorney keeps coming back to get us. We’re falling a bit short of our ideal place. But upon realizing she’d have to take a job at some 60+ hour a week soul sucking firm and I’d have to quit music and be the regional manager at Home Depot or some shit, we’re more than happy to settle with what we can get. There are plenty of older buildings in our area within our reach. The neighborhoods are a bit more Hispanic than where we live now, but – truth be told – white people with money scare us a lot more than hard working Hispanic families. But we’re very close, we’ve qualified for what we need and what we can afford and will probably land our first home by the end of the year.
The album is, for the most part, done. Lauren and I are going to take some photos tomorrow night for the artwork. The only real obstacle left is – what’s the approach to releasing it? I’m not alone with thinking CD’s are simply a dying medium. It’s happening all over the industry, from big stupid labels to small very intelligent ones. I think it qualifies as a crisis and it would be nice to have a creative approach to that very problem. That’s much easier said than done. Maybe labels should start selling SD cards or SATA drives full of MP3’s. Good god, who knows.
