Blog

it's a pretty exciting day here in Atomicaland, I've started doing final, official, no turning back bounces of the tracks for Grayscale. I'm sure your sentiment is the same as mine when i say "About fucking time." I have 3-4 to bounce each of the next couple days, and then a couple to work on next week, hopefully bounce them next weekend and poof, an album.

I had a great time @ Sonotheque! Met a lot of people, got a handful of demos, I even met someone who reads this blog. I never think anyone reads this and it kind of cracks me up. As I’ve said so many times, what I write in here is always stream of consciousness, never really a permanent stance. Though it seems like a lot of people take this thing as gospel. I’m allowed to vent, right??? If you answered “No” – then, well, go f**k yourself. See,I put those stars in because I’m a dad now.

Star Jones has a new show . . an Oprah like show. On a new network. How do I know this? Well, I can’t tell you that yet. I can tell you that being the guy to do the theme for the Star Jones show would crack me the hell up for a long time to come. I don’t think I’d be able to buy a television for another few years.

We just started monitoring our credit. Oh, how scary. Did you know that People’s Gas here in Chicago considers your gas bill a revolving credit account?? That’s insane. So if you fall into the category of having “too much” credit, People’s is partially to blame. We actually have 2 revolving accounts with them, since we recently moved. Either way, based upon where we're at, I figure we’re about a year or two away from buying a home. I’d like to push that to 7-8 months so we don’t have to ever sign another lease, but it’s a long shot.

The Stromkern mini tours are sneaking up on me, we’re doing the Madison show in a couple weeks. I’m also doing sound for Iris the night before. This should be fun. I like being out and about, I love the travel aspect of touring, but I’ve come to loathe the responsibility and the inevitable loss of soul and money that goes along with it. This is the rarest of scenarios where I actually _make_ a little bit for touring. Awesome.

These last few months have been an absolute blur of frustration from all corners of my world. The obvious, taking care of Ella, hasn’t been as frustrating as it has simply been a complete change in both my lifestyle and my priorities. I’ve really needed the people around me to have their shit together. Work is always frustrating, but I don’t need to tell you guys about that – everyone’s work is frustrating. And the album, I’ve had to listen to a low yet constant whine about money and our creative direction ever since we took this project live. I’ve had people joining cults, people acting needy, people acting crazy . . I really put myself in a terrible situation creatively. And I’ve been ready to just throw a match on this whole thing more than once.

Tonight Lauren came over to record vocals and we flipped it. We took it back to when (this incarnation) of Atomica first started. Her voice, my programming – it was simple, beautiful, easy to do and easy to enjoy doing. We’re going to do everything we can to keep it just like this.

Dean will be laying down some heavy bass swipe tomorrow night @ Sonotheque. I'll be there, as will everyone who is anyone, ha. But seriously, it's a great bar, amazing sound system, some say it's a "New York" type of place. It is pretty similar to the railroad dancehalls that line 20th-23rd st. Come on by.
